About Moon Dickson, Licensed Massage Practitioner
I’ve always had an interest in the body. I began a long athletic career at age seven in track and field, soccer and a few years later with basketball. I played Division I college basketball, which deepened my appreciation for movement, health and the body. While interested in Physical Therapy, I pursued a degree in Recreational Therapy which has a mission to “provide treatments and recreation activities to individuals with illnesses or disabling conditions to improve or maintain physical, mental and emotional well-being and help reduce depression, stress and anxiety.”
As a Recreational Therapist, I worked for seven years with a diverse population: “at risk youth,” the elderly, people with newly acquired physical disabilities, and developed an outpatient outdoor adventure program for people with disabilities. My background in Recreational Therapy showed me the importance of balance in our lives. I have experienced balance of the body and mind to be a key benefit of massage therapy. I was introduced to massage early in my career in sports and found massage to be healing, deeply relaxing and rejuvenating.
I graduated from the Brian Utting School of Massage in 1991. I also studied yoga intensively, a variety of movement exercise programs and Voice Dialogue. I feel fortunate to have studied and received bodywork from some of the best instructors in the Pacific Northwest: ranging from Swedish, deep tissue, manual lymphatic drainage massage (Vodder MLD certified), cranial sacral, Structural Integration®, Hawaiian bodywork, sports massage, Feldenkrais®, Qigong, etc. I typically don’t limit myself to any one modality. Instead, I prefer to adapt my work to fit each individual’s unique needs.
My other passion is gardening. I completed the horticulture program at Edmonds Community College in 2003. Since then I have designed, renovated and maintained gardens in addition to my bodywork practice. At home, I devote my garden energy to growing edibles. I feel my hands carry this connection with the plants and the soil into my massage practice. My clients comment that my work is calming and deeply relaxing. I look forward to working with the community and guests here in the Freeland, Langley, Clinton and Greenbank area of Whidbey Island. I can be reached at moon.dickson@gmail.com.
